English-French Translation Workshop I

TRIN 461 is a hands-on bridge between two foreign languages, training you to move texts in both directions between English and French without routing through Turkish, which forces you to think about meaning, register, and cultural framing rather than word-level substitution. Most weeks revolve around a translation assignment on a different domain (travel, sport, food, health, cinema, current affairs), each paired with a glossary you build yourself, plus a 3-hour in-class midterm and final that simulate real working conditions. It's where the comparative and theoretical groundwork from earlier translation courses gets stress-tested on actual texts, and it sets up the more specialized workshops that follow.
