English-French Translation Workshop II

TRIN 462 is the second half of the English-French translation workshop, where the focus shifts from learning how to translate to handling the kind of subject-matter range a working translator actually faces: international relations, human rights, health, climate, security, culture. Most of your time goes into producing weekly EN>FR (and occasional FR>EN) translations of real texts and building a glossary alongside each one, with a midterm and final that are themselves three-hour in-class translations. The course assumes you already have the language and the basic translation reflexes; what it trains is terminology research, register, and cultural equivalence across domains - the groundwork for later specialized translation and interpretation courses.
