Translation criticism is less about catching "wrong" word choices and more about asking what a translation does — to a text, a culture, and a reader — and this course gives you the theoretical vocabulary to make that judgment defensible. You'll work through the field's major frames (House's TQA model, Berman, Toury's DTS, the cultural turn, feminist and queer approaches, eco-translation) by writing weekly reports, three short essays, a presentation, and a term essay that applies one framework to a translation of your choice. It sits late in the TRIN curriculum because it assumes you already know how translation works in practice; here you learn to argue about it, which is the groundwork for thesis-level research and any serious editorial or reviewer role.
