American History II

The second half of the U.S. history sequence picks up after the Civil War and traces how a recovering, largely agrarian republic became an industrial power, an empire, and eventually a Cold War superpower — with all the labor conflict, racial reckoning, and political realignment that came with it. You'll work through The American Yawp chapter by chapter alongside supplemental primary sources, with two homework assignments and steady in-class discussion pushing you to read documents critically rather than just memorize dates. It's a required sophomore course in AMER, so it builds the historical backbone you'll lean on in later literature, culture, and politics electives.
