Data Privacy is a graduate seminar built around a single question: when systems collect data about people, what does it actually take to protect them, and where do the standard answers break down? You'll read recent papers across anonymization, cryptographic protocols, ML privacy attacks, genomic and location data, blockchains, and e-voting, then write a conference-style report and present your own deep dive alongside quizzes and a final. It assumes you're comfortable with algorithms and basic crypto, and it's the natural lead-in to research with the privacy/security group or to applied work where compliance and threat modeling are first-class concerns rather than afterthoughts.
