Ottoman diplomatics is the study of how the empire's paperwork actually worked, who produced which document, in what hand, under whose seal, and why a sultanic ferman looks nothing like a kadi sicili or a vakıf register. The course traces that bureaucratic machinery from the classical period through the Tanzimat, but most of your time goes into reading actual texts: deciphering the script, identifying the genre, and arguing what it tells you as a historical source. It's a working tool for anyone planning archival research on the Ottomans, since without it the Başbakanlık documents stay opaque no matter how good your Turkish is.
