EU Law treats the Union as a distinct legal order — supranational rules that sit above member state law and bind national courts, citizens, and governments in ways ordinary international law does not. You will read the founding treaties and landmark CJEU judgments, work through case studies on the four freedoms and the preliminary reference procedure, and sit a midterm and final that test how the institutions, competences, and sources fit together. The course matters because almost every cross-border commercial, regulatory, or rights-based question in Europe runs through this framework, and later electives on competition, trade, or human rights law assume you already speak it.
