ECON 492 traces how Turkey's economy got to where it is now by walking through the major regime shifts since 1950, the planning era, the 1980 liberalization, the 1994 and 2001 crises, and reading them alongside what was happening globally, from Bretton Woods to the rise of China and the wobble of neoliberalism. The work is mostly conceptual rather than technical: a midterm, a final, and a term paper where you pick an episode or sector (agriculture, banking, PPPs, monetary policy) and argue about it using the historical and institutional lens built in lectures.
