History of Civilization II

HCIV 102 traces how the modern West actually came to look the way it does, following Europe from roughly 1500 through the upheavals of the twentieth century with attention to politics, religion, economy, and ideas as a single tangled story rather than separate timelines. You'll read primary sources alongside Kishlansky, write essays that argue from evidence, and give a presentation on a focused theme, with a midterm and final anchoring the assessment. Paired with HCIV 101, it gives every Bilkent undergraduate a shared historical vocabulary that later social-science and humanities courses quietly assume you already have.
