PHIL 307

Paradox and Infinity

Paradoxes aren't just puzzles here, they're the stress tests philosophers use to find where our theories of time, truth, infinity, and rational choice quietly break. You'll work through canonical cases (Zeno, the Liar, Sleeping Beauty, the Prisoner's Dilemma, Cantor's hierarchies) via weekly readings and reports, translating informal arguments into formal ones and back. It sits late in the philosophy curriculum because the payoff is methodological: once you've watched intuitive premises generate contradictions, you read metaphysics, logic, and decision theory with much sharper hands.
