Experimental Methods in Applied Physics

This is a graduate lab course where you learn how modern condensed-matter and atomic physics experiments actually get built and run, from cleanroom microfabrication of Schottky diodes to optical spectroscopy of semiconductors and laser-based atomic measurements. Most of the semester is spent in the lab itself: you carry out a sequence of experiments, automate the instruments through computer-controlled data acquisition, and write up the results as formal reports with proper error analysis. It sits between coursework and thesis research, giving you the hands-on toolkit, measurement intuition, and uncertainty discipline you will need before stepping into a real experimental group.
