This is a graduate seminar built around the many-body physics of dilute Bose gases, working from non-interacting statistics up through Bogoliubov and Gross-Pitaevskii theory to diagrammatic perturbation theory and linear response. You'll spend the term reading primary literature, giving three presentations on chosen subtopics, and working through take-home problem sets where you actually derive the formalism rather than just recite it. It's a launching pad for research in ultracold atoms and BEC physics, so expect to leave with the technical machinery — second quantization, Green's functions, the T-matrix — that underpins most modern condensed matter papers in this area.
