Acting Techniques I-Singing

THEA 181 treats acting as a craft you build through repetition rather than something you read about, using the singing-actor tradition (Callas as the reference point) to connect vocal expression with dramatic intention. Most of your time is spent on your feet in studio: warm-up and acting exercises, storytelling drills, and scene work where you try to surface a character through a chosen text, with two midterms and a final performance grounding the assessment. It sits at the entry point of the performing-arts sequence with no prerequisites, so the goal is less about polished performance and more about forming the basic instincts—presence, listening, and structuring an improvised scene—that every later studio course assumes you already have.
