The first half of the two-semester capstone, where you and your team pick a real software problem, scope it, and produce the engineering artifacts that justify whatever you plan to build next term. The deliverables are documents rather than code: a specifications report defining what the system must do, an analysis report working through requirements and constraints, plus a demo and presentation to your supervisor and jury. Treat it as the design-and-justification phase, risk, ethics, and stakeholder factors all get weighed here so that CS 492 can focus on implementation without re-litigating the problem.
