This is the graduate economics department's mathematical boot camp — the course that retools you from "I know some calculus" into someone who can read a theorem in JET and actually follow the proof. You'll work through real analysis on Euclidean spaces, convex analysis, and optimization theory (unconstrained, Lagrangean, Kuhn-Tucker), mostly via problem sets out of Sundaram and Bartle, with a midterm, final, and quiz that lean on written proofs rather than mechanical computation. It's the prerequisite backbone for micro theory, dynamic optimization, and anything involving fixed-point arguments later in the PhD sequence.
