Tanzimat'tan günümüze uzanan modern Türk edebiyatının nasıl şekillendiğini, Osmanlı modernleşmesi ve Batılılaşma tartışmalarıyla iç içe okuyan bir ders. Namık Kemal, Ziya Paşa, Şinasi'den başlayıp Servet-i Fünun, Fecr-i Âti ve Milli Edebiyat dönemlerine uzanan metinleri inceliyor; roman, şiir, tiyatro ve eleştiri gibi türlerin nasıl ortaya çıktığını ve hangi etik-estetik kaygılarla biçimlendiğini tartışıyorsunuz. Değerlendirme bir essay midterm, sözlü sunum ve take-home final üzerinden yürüdüğü için okuma yükü ağır ama yazma odaklı. EDEB 401'in devamı niteliğinde olan bu ders, modern Türkçe metinlerle ciddi şekilde uğraşacak her humanities öğrencisi için temel bir altyapı sağlıyor.
