Hittite is the earliest Indo-European language we can actually read, and this course is your entry point into doing that yourself rather than reading about it secondhand — you learn the cuneiform signs, the phonology, and enough grammar to start transliterating and translating real Bronze Age texts from Hattusa. Expect steady weekly drilling on signs and paradigms, regular quizzes, a cuneiform workshop, and homework that gets you comfortable with the standard grammars, sign-lists, and digital Hittitology databases. It's a foundation course with no real prerequisites beyond patience, and it sets up Hittite II plus any later work in Anatolian philology, ancient Near Eastern history, or archaeology of the Hittite world.
