Hittite I is your entry point into the oldest documented Indo-European language, taught through the dual challenge of decoding cuneiform signs and parsing a grammar reconstructed largely from clay tablets excavated in Anatolia. Expect weekly grind: roughly a dozen homework sets, recurring quizzes, and a cuneiform workshop where you actually transliterate texts rather than just talk about them. By the end you should be able to sit down with a sign-list, a dictionary, and a Hittite passage and produce a workable English translation, which is the baseline skill for any downstream work in Hittitology or comparative Indo-European linguistics.
