IE 462 looks at how computers, automation, and data are reshaping the way physical things get made — moving the factory floor from isolated machines toward integrated, software-driven systems that handle design, planning, and production as one pipeline. You'll work through homeworks on topics like CAD/CAM, GD&T, additive manufacturing, and robotic cells, then synthesize it in a term project where you analyze or design a piece of an advanced manufacturing system. It sits at the bridge between the classic manufacturing processes course and the systems-level IE thinking (scheduling, FMS, automation) that shows up in operations and production-planning electives.
