Design and Manufacturing

Here you bridge materials science and the shop floor: how raw stock becomes a working part, and how the part's geometry, tolerances, and chosen process feed back into each other. You'll calculate deformation and cutting forces, pick cutting conditions, run through casting/forming/machining/sintering/additive routes, and carry a conceptual design project where machine elements get sized from catalogs. It's the spring-of-third-year course that ties your earlier statics, materials, and manufacturing-processes background into the design decisions you'll lean on in capstone and any real production setting.
