IR 236 traces the political century that built the world you live in: how two world wars, the rise and fall of competing ideologies, and the Cold War's superpower rivalry produced the state system, institutions, and unresolved conflicts that IR today still works inside. You'll move chronologically from 1914 through the Soviet collapse, sitting through lectures and seminar discussion, writing a presentation and homework, and being tested by a midterm and final. It pairs with the IR theory courses you take elsewhere in the curriculum, this is where the case material those theories try to explain actually comes from.
