International Political Economy

IPE sits at the intersection of politics and economics, asking how power and markets shape each other across borders — why states regulate trade the way they do, who really benefits from global finance, and how production got distributed across the world. You'll work through the major theoretical lenses (liberal, mercantilist, critical) and apply them to concrete domains like monetary affairs, transnational corporations, development, and environmental governance, with a midterm, final, two quizzes, and one homework anchoring the assessment. It builds on the IR theory and intro economics you've already had, and gives you the vocabulary you'll need for upper-level electives on globalization, development, and global governance.
