This course treats gender not as a side topic in IR but as a lens that reshapes how you read war, security, political economy, development, and human rights — the assumption being that "neutral" categories in mainstream IR theory often hide gendered structures worth interrogating. Expect a seminar rhythm: weekly readings (Runyan's Global Gender Politics anchors it), in-class essay quizzes, a midterm and final, and consistent discussion prep where you're expected to argue a position rather than summarize. It pairs naturally with IR theory courses and works best after you've seen the realist/liberal canon, since much of the work here is reading those traditions against the grain.
