International Human Rights Law

Human rights law lives in the gap between universal moral claims and the actual machinery states have built to enforce them, and this course walks you through that machinery — primarily the UN Charter and treaty bodies, plus the European system that Turkey directly answers to via the ECtHR. Expect to read treaties, case excerpts, and instructor-supplied judgments closely, then argue them out in class discussions and two essay-style exams that test whether you can apply doctrine to messy fact patterns rather than recite it. Coming after your public international law and constitutional grounding, it's where you learn how individuals actually push claims against states, which matters whether you end up litigating before the ECtHR, advising on compliance, or working in policy.
