Introduction to Philosophy II

PHIL 104 turns from the abstract questions of its fall counterpart to practical philosophy: how we should act, what makes a life go well, and whether morality is anything more than convention. You'll work through primary texts on metaethics, hedonism, virtue ethics, and applied cases, defending readings of them in class discussion, an oral exam, short presentations, and a term essay where citation discipline counts. As a required Year 1 course, it's less about memorizing positions than learning to reconstruct an argument charitably and push back on it — a habit the rest of the Philosophy curriculum assumes you already have.
