Ethics

Ethics here is less about being told what's right and more about pressure-testing the major answers philosophers have given to that question: whether morality tracks consequences, duties, intuitions, or just our preferences, and whether reason or passion should be in the driver's seat. You'll spend the semester reading primary texts, arguing in class, and writing three essays where you have to actually defend a position rather than summarize one. As a sophomore-level required course, it's the point where you stop treating ethical claims as opinions and start handling them as arguments you can build, attack, and apply to real problems downstream.
