THR 431 is where you stop reading plays as literature and start reading them as blueprints for production, working through a toolkit of critical lenses, psychoanalytic, cognitive, Marxist, feminist, historicist, to figure out what a script actually demands on stage. Most of the semester is spent dissecting texts tied to the genre of your first Senior Project, with weekly discussions, a short midterm paper, and a longer final paper where you commit to an interpretation. It's the third installment in the analysis sequence and runs in parallel with your Senior Project, so the readings double as preparation for the show you're about to mount.
