Digital Communications is where the abstract math of signals, probability, and information theory turns into a working picture of how bits actually travel across noisy physical channels — from compressing a source down to its entropy limit, to shaping it into a waveform, to recovering it at a receiver that's fighting Gaussian noise. You'll work through problem sets and quizzes on modulation and detection theory, then run MATLAB/Python simulations in two projects that make you actually build and measure the bit-error-rate curves you derived on paper. It sits downstream of Signals & Systems and Probability (EEE 321, EEE 391) and is the gateway course for wireless, coding, and networking electives — essentially the moment communications stops being continuous-time analog intuition and becomes the discrete, Shannon-flavored framework everything modern runs on.

To qualify for the final exam (to avoid FZ), both of the following conditions must be met: (1) Total of three quizzes and midterm is at least 20 (out of 55). (2) Matlab based projects are completed satisfactorily.
