Fieldwork Methodologies in Archaeology

This is your first hands-on training in how archaeologists actually produce knowledge in the field, covering both non-invasive survey (remote sensing, walking the landscape) and excavation, with a strong emphasis on modern digital documentation rather than just trowel-work. Expect to build two portfolios of recording exercises (plans, drawings, photographic records, 3D survey data), sit a midterm survey write-up, and deliver a final presentation alongside the written exam. As a Spring Year-1 requirement it grounds the rest of the Archaeology curriculum, since later excavation seasons, lab courses, and material-analysis classes all assume you can already record a site properly.
