Museum Practices and the Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Museums aren't neutral display cases—they're institutions that actively shape how societies remember, whose stories get told, and what counts as heritage worth preserving. You'll read foundational museum studies texts, write interpretive exhibition labels, visit museums with specialist lecturers, and produce a project alongside weekly reports that engage debates around decolonisation, restitution, and the ethics of display. As a senior elective in the Archaeology track, it closes the loop between fieldwork and public-facing practice, giving you the critical vocabulary to evaluate—or eventually design—exhibitions, especially in the Turkish context where memory politics run deep.
