Pottery is the workhorse evidence of most excavations, and this one-week intensive teaches you to actually read it — sorting sherds by fabric, ware, and form, dating assemblages from morphology, and producing the technical drawings that make a sherd publishable. You'll spend mornings on the principles and afternoons elbow-deep in real survey material, with a portfolio of drawings and daily reports as the deliverable. It's a practical complement to broader archaeology coursework: by the end you should be able to walk onto a dig and design a defensible ceramic recording program rather than just hand sherds to a specialist.
