A deep dive into a focused slice of Anatolian art and archaeology, framed less as a survey than as an apprenticeship in how scholars actually argue about funerary monuments, royal commissions, and cult complexes from Lydian Sardis through Roman Aphrodisias. You'll work primarily through close readings of recent scholarship and primary monuments — sarcophagi, tombs, altars, reliefs — building toward analyses you defend in quizzes and a project rather than absorbing material passively. As an upper-level elective, it assumes you already know the basic chronology and methods from earlier HART coursework, and trains the critical reading skills you'll need for graduate work or thesis-level research.
