Despite the broad catalog title, this graduate seminar zeroes in on Troy as a case study in how archaeology actually works: how a half-mythic site gets localized, excavated, contested, and reinterpreted across stratigraphic layers and political agendas. You'll do close readings each week, write three short essays, sit a midterm, and carry one or two presentations on specific Troia phases (I-IV, V-VIIb3, VIII-X) before a round-table synthesis. It's a methods course disguised as a regional one — useful groundwork for anyone moving deeper into Anatolian prehistory or Iron Age fieldwork, where untangling evidence from narrative is the whole job.
