HIST 482 picks up where the first semester left off, pushing your Latin from "I can parse a sentence" to actually reading medieval and early modern sources on their own terms, chronicles, papal documents, theological treatises, and Neo-Latin letters. You'll spend the term drilling the harder grammar (subjunctive systems, participial constructions, passive forms, gerundives) and then turning that grammar loose on real texts from Vergil and Livy through Augustine, the Donation of Constantine, and Petrarch. It's a tools course for anyone planning to do serious archival work in medieval/early modern history, where the sources simply aren't translated.
