IE 102 is the freshman gateway into how industrial engineers actually think: framing real situations as processes, measuring how well they perform, and using math to make better decisions about them. You'll work through small case-style examples (the Chelst book is full of them) plus quizzes, homework, and a report, touching the seeds of what later become full courses — networks, assignment problems, probability, decision analysis, and linear programming. It's less about mastering any one technique and more about learning the IE habit of mind that everything from IE 202 to senior systems design will assume you have.
