Engineering Economic Analysis

Every engineering decision eventually comes down to money over time, and this course teaches you the language for arguing about it rigorously: a lira today is not a lira in five years, and choosing between two machines, two designs, or two public projects requires translating their cash flows onto a common footing before comparing them. You will spend the semester working through problem sets and quizzes on present/annual worth, internal rate of return, depreciation and tax effects, inflation, and replacement decisions, plus some decision-tree work for uncertainty. It is the bridge between the deterministic optimization you see elsewhere in the IE curriculum and the financial reasoning that shows up later in production planning, project management, and any capstone where you have to justify a design choice to someone who only cares about the numbers.
