This course explores the formative years of liberal internationalism from Woodrow Wilson's triumphant arrival in Paris in 1918 to the resigned refashioning of liberal institutions after the Second World War. A diverse set of readings from the field of international history challenges students to understand the individuals who, in negotiating a compromise between bounded political communities and a global economy, shaped an international order whose tenets are being questioned today.
