Senior Project II

The capstone where you take a focused mathematical topic chosen with a faculty adviser and carry it from independent reading through to a written thesis and oral defense — the point is to show you can learn serious mathematics on your own and communicate it like a working mathematician. Most of the term is solo work with your adviser, punctuated by LaTeX/typesetting sessions and a public presentation near the end, with the final deliverable being a properly typeset written project. It's the bookend to MATH 491, and the skills it forces — reading proofs critically, structuring an argument in writing, defending it out loud — are exactly what you'll lean on in graduate school or any quantitative career afterward.
