ME 434 picks up where undergrad thermo left off and pushes into the machinery behind the property tables you used to just look up — Maxwell relations, real-gas behavior, mixture and combustion equilibrium, and then a pivot to statistical mechanics that derives macroscopic properties from molecular partition functions, kinetic theory, and crystal/electron-gas models. Expect problem sets every couple of weeks plus two midterms and a final, with the workload heavy on individual derivations rather than labs. It's the bridge course for anyone heading toward combustion, propulsion, or materials research, where knowing why c_p has the value it does matters more than reading it off a chart.
