Undergraduate Research in ME

ME 490 is your first taste of doing real mechanical engineering research instead of just learning about it, working one-on-one with a faculty member on a problem that doesn't have a known answer at the back of the book. You'll pick a topic that fits a professor's active work, dig into the literature, run experiments or simulations, and write up what you found in a report that the supervisor grades. It's the natural bridge between coursework and a senior project, graduate study, or an industry R&D role, and it's where you find out whether research is something you actually want to keep doing.
