History of Built Environment II

ADA 264 traces how architecture from the 18th century onward became entangled with the forces shaping modern life—revolution, industry, empire, nationalism, and globalization—reading buildings and cities as evidence of the ideas and power structures behind them. You'll move chronologically from Enlightenment classicism through avant-gardes, modern urbanism, and postwar counter-movements, comparing Ottoman, Turkish, and Western cases and demonstrating that lens in a research paper. Picking up where the first half of the sequence left off, it gives you the historical vocabulary you'll lean on in later theory, conservation, and design studio courses.
