The premise here is that the house isn't just a shelter but a piece of infrastructure that quietly choreographs how people move, gather, and relate to each other, and that the influence runs both ways between domestic space and the society around it. You'll work through cases spanning prehistory to the present and stretching from East Asia to the Americas, with the load split between studio exercises, a homework set, and two written essays on the midterm and final. As a general-education ADA elective it doesn't sit on top of a prerequisite chain, but it gives you a vocabulary for reading built environments that pays off in any later course touching architecture, anthropology, or urban history.

To qualify for the final exam, students need to 1) have submitted the midterm exam, 2) have submitted the homework, 3) have attended at least 70% of the course, AND 4) have collected a total of at least 15 points from the midterm and the assignments. Failure to comply with any of these requirements will result in an FZ grade.
