Environmental Technology

ARCH 342 is about treating a building as a system that has to keep people comfortable, warm, lit, ventilated, supplied with water, without fighting its climate, so you learn to reason about passive strategies first and mechanical equipment second. Expect lectures paired with a running design project where you actually lay out HVAC, lighting, electrical and plumbing on your own studio scheme, plus reports and site-based homework. It sits between the structures sequence and your upper-year studios: by the end, your studio drawings stop being pretty plans and start being buildings that could plausibly be built and serviced.
