Structural Design I is where architecture students stop treating buildings as pure form and start reasoning about how loads actually travel through beams, columns, and slabs to the ground. You'll work through load calculations, material behavior under stress, and the design of steel members, capped by a case-study presentation analyzing how a real historic or contemporary steel building resolves its forces. It's the bridge between studio intuition and the engineering vocabulary you need to collaborate credibly with structural engineers later, and it sets up the reinforced-concrete and more advanced structures courses that follow.
