ARCH 465 traces how twentieth-century Western architecture argued with itself — from the late-CIAM crisis and Team X through autonomy, postmodernism, critical regionalism, and the digital turn — treating buildings as positions in a long theoretical conversation rather than just objects to admire. You read Frampton, Colquhoun, Heynen, and Haddad alongside lectures, then put that reading to work in three homeworks, an oral presentation, a midterm, and a term project built around in-class reviews. It sits late in the curriculum because it asks you to historicize the moves you've been making in studio, giving you the vocabulary to defend design decisions instead of just rendering them.
