Architectural Readings

Architecture doesn't only exist as buildings — it also lives in the texts, drawings, photographs, and films that frame how we read it, and this graduate seminar trains you to take those representations seriously as objects of analysis in their own right. You'll work through a rotating set of canonical readings (Sharr, Frascari, Holl, Colomina, among others) via weekly homework responses, in-class comparative analyses, two presentations, and a term project that applies the methods to a building or medium of your choice. It's the kind of foundation that sharpens how you'll later write thesis chapters, design statements, or criticism — useful precisely because most studio work assumes this literacy without ever teaching it.
