Inorganic Chemistry I is really a course about how symmetry and bonding theory let you predict the structure, spectra, and reactivity of molecules across the periodic table — moving past the simple Lewis-dot picture you got in general chemistry toward group theory, hybridization, and molecular orbital diagrams. You'll spend the semester assigning point groups, building MO diagrams for polyatomics, and interpreting IR, Raman, NMR, and EPR data, with two midterms, a final, and weekly problem work out of Housecroft & Sharpe. It's the foundation for CHEM 342 (transition metals and coordination chemistry) and for any later spectroscopy or materials work, so the symmetry fluency you build here pays off well beyond this single term.
