Polymer chemistry is really the study of how small, repeating molecular units add up to materials whose behavior — strength, elasticity, flow, degradation — is governed less by individual bonds than by chain length, distribution, and architecture. You'll work through the major polymerization mechanisms (step, free-radical, ionic, coordination, copolymerization) alongside the statistics and kinetics that predict molecular weight, plus characterization methods and the physical side: rheology, rubber elasticity, composites, and natural polymers. Coming after organic and physical chemistry, it's where those tools start describing real engineering materials, and it's the natural bridge into materials science, biomaterials, and the sustainability questions driving current polymer research.
