Advanced English Grammar I

ENG 117 is really about learning to talk *about* English grammar with the same precision you're expected to write it, mastering the meta-language of tense, aspect, modality and reference so you can diagnose and fix problems in your own prose instead of guessing. You'll keep a writing portfolio that you progressively self-edit, give vocabulary presentations, and sit timed midterm and final exams that test grammar under pressure. As a first-year requirement it locks in the C1/C2-level control you'll need for ENG 101/102 and every later course that grades your written English, which at Bilkent is basically all of them.
