Greek Archaeology

Greek Archaeology traces how a fragmented post-Bronze Age world built itself into the civilization whose temples, statues, and city plans still anchor Western art history, and asks you to read that trajectory through the actual material rather than through later mythology. You move chronologically from Cycladic and Minoan beginnings through the Geometric, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods, learning to analyze specific buildings, vases, and sculptures using descriptive, contextual, and theoretical lenses across a midterm, quizzes, homework, and a final. As a required second-year course for Archaeology students, it sets the visual and methodological vocabulary you'll lean on later when Roman, Anatolian, and field-method courses assume you already know how to look at a pediment or a black-figure krater.
